Final Film Idea

The idea for my film is to focus on the theme of driving with young people. Looking at the dangers of driving while under the affect of drink or drugs and the repercussions of this.

My film focuses on two characters, two best friends who are separated when a car crash takes one of their lives. They were both under the influence, I am trying to now combine the symptoms of a 'crash' from coming down from a high to the crash which took the life of his friend. Exploring how the main character post-crash has a blurred perception of the boundaries between what he sees versus reality. As the film progresses the main character goes further off the rails and we helplessly watch the breakdown of each of his relationships with other people, though we disapprove of his actions we are still drawn to feel sorry for him. By the time he has lost almost all of his friendly connections with other people, he is left alone, meeting new people becomes difficult and he develops an awkwardness and inability to talk to others as fluently. This leads him to behave in ways which do not generally conform to society's expectations and are 'weird'. We see the reaction of the general public to his behaviour and it is not a positive reaction, in fact it does not reflect how the audience feel and leaves you thinking 'oh i wish I could have said something'. The main character eventually finds someone willing to listen and determined enough to break the social barrier built by the himself and begins to develop coping mechanisms which normalise him back into society. But the idea of the story is that you should judge someone who doesn't quite fit in.
